If you are in, say, Australia and it’s hard to call me because of time zones, email is the way to go. If you have a simple question that requires only a brief answer (such as, “Is Friday a good day for a group of us to come from Baltimore?” or “Would you like to speak to our group on x/x/x this summer?” yes, an email is fine- but please include your phone number!
On the other hand, “What color dyes do you have?” that requires a lengthy response and further questions (what kind of fiber are you dyeing?” would be better as a phone call.
