Zephyr (50% tussah silk, 50% merino wool mill laps)

"Laps" are fibers from spinning mills that didn't get all the way throught he spinning machines. This is prepared fiber, carded/combed and ready to be spun. Some portions are batts, some thick roving; small amounts are pencil roving, and some is in chunks. These laps are almost entirely spinnable right out of the bag with almost no waste. Some of the laps are well blended; other parts are marbled to various degrees, the tan silk contrasting with the white wool. The wool and silk can sometimes be separated. Yarn spun from the laps is variable; this will show up most in dyed yarns, where the silk typically dyes a lighter color than the wool.
