Weaving $35 a day/person, plus materials
Supportive, individualized instruction. Learn to select fibers,
design a project, wind a warp and prepare the loom for weaving;
or work on a prepared loom (as available), focusing on treading,
consistency, and smooth rhythm. Suggested first projects are dishtowels,
scarf, shawl, or baby blanket. 1-4 days.

Feltmaking
$45/person
An introduction to the making of this earliest, unwoven textile.
A broad spectrum will be presented, including hand felting and
felting in the washing machine; both flat and three dimensional
forms. Bring an apron and dress to work. 3-4 hours
Spinning $35/person
Individualized instruction: your choice of great wheel (also called
"walking" or "wool" wheel), drop spindle,
charka, standard spinning wheel or combination. Overview of beginning
spinning, yarn finishing. 3-4 hour session
Fiber Selection and Preparation
$35/person
Examination of the properties of various wool types and breeds,
and of the options for preparing them to spin. How to fit the
fiber, preparation, and finishing to its end use. Hand carding,
picking, drum carding, combing, forming batts, rovings, punis;
luxury fibers and blends; color blending. 3-4 hours
Dye Painting
on Silk $45/person
Plan and paint a silk scarf using French, steam-fixed dyes. Bring
pictures or sketches of ideas, and an apron. If you love color,
watercolor, silk, or batik, this medium will delight you. Fee
includes one scarf. 3-4 hours
Shibori $70/person
Japanese "shaped resist" dye techniques. A highly developed
form of tie dye yielding intricate pattern and texture. Two 2-3
hour sessions plus a third visit to pick up finished pieces. Fee
includes two silk scarves.
Rug
Hooking $35/person, plus materials
An overview of the basics for beginners. Note: chose traditional
rug hooking using narrow strips of wool fabric, pulled through
a linen foundation into loops (this is not latch
hooking) and/or punch hooking, using narrow strips and/or
yarns and other fiber worked from the back. Equipment, techniques,
design, and materials will be addressed. Usually one session is
enough to get you started on a project, but this instruction can
be taken more than once, with focus directed to your needs each
time. 3-4 hours
Glass
Bead Making: Lampwork $60/ person,
all materials included
An introduction to working glass by melting it above the flame
of a torch and winding it on steel rods to form beads. Over 50%
of the beads produced in Europe for centuries were made in this
way by cottage industry workers. The techniques are not difficult
and are fascinating. Buttons, pendants, and marbles are possible
too! Make exactly the beads you want for particular projects:
color, shape, size, design and decoration all under your control.
Great fun. 3-4 hours.

Pysanky:
Ukrainian Easter Eggs $30/person
Brilliantly colored, intricately patterned eggs are decorated
using this was resist technique similar to batik. A pleasant group
activity- bring a friend and learn to make "pysanky"
which are given as gifts year round in the Ukraine. Bring apron.
